Modded Minecraft Hosting India — Forge & Fabric Guide

BY BOLTBYTE TEAM  ·  UPDATED MAY 2026  ·  9 MIN READ

Modded Minecraft is an entirely different experience from vanilla — from tech mods and magic systems to brutal difficulty overhauls. Running a modded server in India used to mean accepting 100ms+ ping from international hosts. BoltByte's Indian nodes change that, letting you run Forge and Fabric modpacks with ~10–20ms ping for your friends.

This guide covers everything: which modpack needs how much RAM, how to install it on BoltByte, and common performance fixes.

Forge vs Fabric — Which Should You Use?

Always Allocate More Than the Client Server RAM requirements are often 1–2GB more than the client-side recommendation. If the modpack page says "4GB for client", allocate 6GB on the server to handle multiple players and chunk generation simultaneously.

How to Install a Modpack on BoltByte

Method 1 — Pterodactyl Panel (Easiest)

  1. Log into your Pterodactyl panel at panel.boltbyte.store
  2. Go to Startup → select Forge or Fabric as server type
  3. Enter your Forge/Fabric version matching the modpack
  4. Download the modpack's server files from CurseForge or Modrinth
  5. Upload via the File Manager → extract the zip
  6. Run the included install.sh or ServerStart.sh once to download mod dependencies
  7. Start the server — it will generate configs on first boot

Method 2 — CurseForge Server Pack (For ATM9, FTB etc)

  1. Download the official server pack from CurseForge (look for "Server Pack" on the modpack page)
  2. Upload to your BoltByte server via SFTP (credentials in Pterodactyl Settings)
  3. Extract and run the installer script
  4. Start the server via Pterodactyl console

Performance Optimisation for Modded Servers in India

Add FTB Chunks or Chunky for Pregeneration

Pre-generate your world before players join. This eliminates the biggest source of lag on modded servers — real-time chunk generation for players exploring in different directions simultaneously.

Use FerriteCore + Starlight (Fabric)

For Fabric packs, FerriteCore dramatically reduces RAM usage and Starlight optimises lighting calculations. Together, they can reduce RAM usage by 20–30%.

Limit Mob Spawning

Heavy Forge packs often add many new mobs. Reduce spawn-limits in bukkit.yml or use a mob limiter mod to keep TPS stable as your player base grows.

Schedule Restarts

Modded servers benefit from daily automatic restarts to clear accumulated memory leaks. Use Pterodactyl's schedule feature to restart every 24 hours at low-traffic time (e.g., 4 AM IST).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much RAM do I need for RLCraft server in India?

RLCraft requires at least 4GB RAM for a server with 2–5 players. BoltByte's Fern (₹189, 4GB Mumbai) or Basic (₹309, 4GB Delhi AMD EPYC) plans work well for RLCraft.

Can I run ATM9 (All the Mods 9) on BoltByte?

Yes. ATM9 needs at least 8GB RAM server-side. BoltByte's Mountain (₹349, 8GB Mumbai) or Premium (₹479, 8GB Delhi AMD EPYC) plans support ATM9 for 3–8 simultaneous players.

Is Fabric or Forge better for a modded Minecraft server in India?

Fabric is more performance-oriented and better for smaller packs or optimization mods. Forge has more mods and is required for heavy packs like ATM9 or RLCraft. Choose based on your modpack's loader requirement.

How do I install a modpack on BoltByte's server?

Download the modpack's server pack from CurseForge or Modrinth, upload via SFTP or Pterodactyl's file manager, run the included install script, then start the server from the panel console.

Can I run Pixelmon on BoltByte's Indian servers?

Yes. Pixelmon Reforged (Forge) requires 4–6GB RAM. BoltByte's Fern (₹189) or Forest (₹249) Mumbai plans, or the Basic (₹309) Delhi plan, all support Pixelmon servers in India.
